 In memory of

Alec Torrice

Words of condolence:-

Words cannot describe the sadness I felt when I had the call on Saturday. You where here on Wednesday and as usual  we were laughing and joking and watching the discovery channel, about planes of course.
Alec you have been part of my family for some 20 years you were like a father to me Grandfather to my children and to there children. You followed with such interest my children's lives and careers and was the first to offer your extensive knowledge of life to them. For some 12 years or so you have shared our Christmas and Boxing days and brought such joy and happiness with you. You and I Alec shared a very special relationship , a love of engineering cars boats planes and above all the importance of being a family, and you Alec were held in high regard in my family.
We spoke so much about the car club, and I know that it was a major part of your life, when we restored the van you were here everyday till late just so we could get it ready for the shows. I know Alec how much you thought of the van your job in the club and the club itself. and I thank you for being such a wonderful member.
Alec the love and respect I have for you is immense and I thank you for 20 years of friendship, My family are broken hearted Alec you will remembered with so much love.
Rest in peace my dear dear friend.

So so many memories of you dear Alec I could write a book but you know how loved by all you where and that you loved them back.
You came into this world being loved and you will go out that way. An inspiration to all especially myself and my family, your famous words STAY CALM will stay with me forever and you were calm to the very last.
Alec you were simply THE BEST.

Oh Alec, I feel so ,so  sad. I really couldn’t believe it when I got told and I still think it hasn’t sunk in yet…You were a big part of our family and with us on lot’s of special occasions… I remember you helping me move in to both of my new homes you came out to Cyprus with us for my wedding day, my baby’s funeral, when I had my children, christenings. With us for the good and the bad times and most important was Christmas… the day itself round my mum and dads then boxing day at mine, I remember the board games you played with us as if it was yesterday… we all wanted to be on your team as you knew so much! It really wont ever be the same again. I guess I am in shock, last time I saw you, you looked well and happy. I just wish I had seen you last week round my mum and dads….My girls did and they said they had a chat with you and bought in your drink I’m glad you saw them so recently. My Nans and Grandads died when I was quite young and although really, really sad when you are younger I think you accept it a lot quicker…Now seems so much harder when you have been one of those ’grandads’ and have so much involvement in mine and my children’s lives with more memories you really will be part of the family that is missing. You were a lovely man that would do anything for anyone I just wish you weren’t gone, I wish I could of helped you some way?. I'm sorry, and really did love you

lots Love Kerry xxx Paul, Kelsey, Caitlin and Lucy xxxxx

Al, I can't explain how upsetting it is that you have gone, we have lost one of our family. I will always look back on the time we spent together with a smile, especially on my driving lessons! Thinking of u always

To Alec

This poem is from the bottom of my heart.

A granddad figure you were to me, and I am so proud to call you family

You had a heart of gold that shone so bright, to have had you in my life is such a delight

You will be missed to say the least, but now we know you will rest in peace

All my memories I will never forget, I am so glad that we all met.

Alec you will be missed so much

To Alec. Eileen and i have not known you as long as many members but you were a kind and thoughtful man and are proud to have known you and you will be sadly missed. Trevor and Eileen.

We were very sad to hear  of the passing of our dear friend Alec. He was so supportive of us in our time of despair and as usual with his cheery attitude.

It was a pleasure to know you Alec and our great club will be missing a special member.
We  recall many club outings with Alec especially Duxford where his knowledge of aircraft was amazing.
With fondest memories John, Gina & Mark Whipp.

Alec - you were the personification of "a great bloke" and will be sadly missed.  I will even miss being presented with all those petrol and toll bills for the Club van.  You looked after it like a baby, never damaged it and only once got caught by a camera!  Rest in Peace.  Glyn & Ann

Alec you were the perfect gent, your enthusiasm for our club, the effort you put into taking the van out at every request in all weathers puts many to shame. Nothing was too much trouble, you would take it to be your duty to get the van to all the events, and for that alone i thank you.You will be truely missed by so many of us. I for one found your knowledge on so many subjects to be truely amazing. I find it hard to believe you wont be accompanying me to Biggin hill for the anniversary of the battle of Britain as that was the very last conversation we had, and knew how excited you were to go.I will still go Alec and as i look up to the sky i know you will be looking down.Thank you Alec for all that you shared and made this world a better place . Adrian

We are very sad at the loss of our club member Alec. He always amazed us with his knowledge of aircraft & militaria etc and of course he was our trusty VAN MAN.

He will be very sadly missed by us both.

Forever your friends,

Ted & Sharon Davison.

Dear Alec, at every car show we attended I looked forward to looking at the cars with you.  Your wealth of knowledge on pre-war cars and aircraft never failed to amaze me.  You had the ability to get the car owners to open their bonnets and then would often tell them things about their cars that they didn't know.

Whenever we went to London you were always so enthusiastic and we enjoyed the Cabinet War Rooms so much we were planning to visit them again this year.

When we were in the Isle of Wight and had our customary after dinner walks you never complained when we forgot your age and walked you for miles.

If we were coming home from a show and passing through Chelmsford, I would glance in my rear view mirror and you would be following me as we went to the garage where my other Riley was.  You were so interested in the progress of the restoration and would often drop round when I was there with magazines and books for me.

We never realised how much you meant to us and we will always remember you in the van, wearing your ear protectors and in time we will be able to smile at that memory.

Rest in peace dear Alec.

Whilst I am not involved with the Club as much as I used to be, Alec attended a lot of the events I organise.

Always the perfect gentleman, he demonstrated a passion for anything mechanical, as well as being willing to share his vast knowledge in a quiet unassuming way.

The Club has lost a valued member, and our hobby has lost a real enthusiast.

Alec, kind, thoughtful, helpful and a very nice person to know and to have in our club.  You will be very sadly missed, but I  will think of you with a smile on my face, why just think of geese.  Geese - why?.  Many years ago when we were first at Belvedere, one summers club night we were out in the car park, when some geese flew overhead us.  You were standing with Paul and I watching the geese when suddenly 2 of them flew into the pylon and got electrocuted.  You went off very quickly in the direction of the pylon to investigate.  Suddenly you reappeared with a goose in both hands, what a sight that was!.  To my horror you put the geese in the back of the club van to take home for your dinner you said.  Me being a veggie I thought you was joking, until we saw you at the next event and you told me how delicious they were.  Only you Alec, only you.

Well goodbye our friend, may you be at peace, and it was a real pleasure in knowing you.

Love
Paul, Lorraine, Amy and Sophie

The world has lost one of the good guys! Alex, you were always cheerful and a pleasure to chat with the car shows won't be the same without you. We will miss you.

Love John & Pat Griffiths.

We shall miss you Alec. We always enjoyed sharing a picnic with you at events  because you always made the conversation so interesting, not only about cars but about anything.
The last two events we attended, the Combined Services Museum and the Southend Air Show you would have loved. We missed you so much.
The club van will always will always remind us of you.

Pat & Keith Smith

Alec we didn't known you very long but you were always a perfect gentleman, always ready to help or give advice. We remember fondly the time we spent with you at various events.  One of our most lasting memories is at the Bluebell Railway  watching the train coming along the track with you at the helm, only you could do that Alec, brilliant.  Rest in Peace.  Jan & Tony Bull

Just a quick note,
It was with great sadness that we read of the passing of Alec, he was a good friend to Jake and also to ourselves, he was there at the hardest of times.
We will say a pray for him here.
With love
